Siberian huskies are one of the most sought after breeds most people like to have as a family pet because of the amazing attributes they have some of which are dependability, kinship, and loyalty. Aside from their robust and charming physical appearance, huskies are also considered to be guarding dogs for kids because of their affinity towards them. Training one shouldn’t be difficult if you know all the rules, so to help you with the matter, here are some Siberian husky training tips you should follow:
Rite of passage
When you take home your dog for the first time, its important that you go through the door first to let them know you’re the master of the house. If you’re tending a pack, always make sure that the Alpha dog is the first one to go through the door first after you to assert dominance on the pack. If you’re tending pups, the earlier you train them with the rites of passage, the better they’ll know it in the future.
Chow time
As the owner of the huskies, you need to eat first before you can feed your dog. This is to orient them on how they can follow their master obediently during chow time and also for them to know the time when they’re going to be fed. This should be consistent, though this rule can be broken if you’re used to eating with your dog at the same time.
Petting
As much as you’d like to greet and pet your huskies all the time, it shouldn’t be made as practicing such act will disregard your status as alpha. Always make the dogs greet you may it be on the front porch or in the living room. You can make use of name calling if the situation calls for it. Reward huskies if they do something good, and correct them if they do something wrong (I.e. bad dog or bad puppy). The use of force in Siberian husky training is never an option and is prohibited.
Sleeping place
It sure is nice to let your husky sleep with you on the bed, but you can only do this once you’ve really asserted your alphaness. If you do this without asserting anything, you’re making him equal which isn’t a bad thing; though it will be if you have a problem when it comes to leadership. Make sure your husky has a sleeping place of his own, somewhere comfortable and cozy.
The true alpha
There’s no doubt that you’re truly your huskys master, only if you prove to be trusting, caring, and gentle to them. Huskies are intuitive; they can easily tell when their master is up to something. Prove to the pack that you’re worthy of being a leader by always tending to their every need.
Expectations
Training your Siberian huskies to be the most obedient and charming dog doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and a lot of effort for it to happen, and if you cant commit to any of that, maybe you shouldn’t be raising a husky at all.
